What we migrate

Websites

  • Your website files (public_html and common add-on domains)
  • Databases (MySQL/MariaDB)
  • cPanel configuration needed for the site to run (where applicable)

Email Accounts

  • Email accounts + passwords (or we can reset them)
  • Mailboxes/folders via migration where possible
  • (Some setups migrate perfectly, others need a different approach — we’ll tell you upfront.)

DNS Records

  • If your DNS is with us or Cloudflare and you grant access, we can handle it end-to-end
  • If your DNS is handled by someone else, We’ll tell you exactly what records need changing

What's not Included

Unsupported platforms

  • Websites built on platforms we can’t cleanly copy

Existing
issues

  • Fixing issues that already exist on the old host (broken sites, malware, hacks, etc.)

Rebuilds and optimisation

  • Rebuilding sites, redesigns, performance tuning, or optimisation work
    (Happy to quote it — it’s just not migration.)

Non-cPanel environments

  • Non-cPanel environments (DirectAdmin, Plesk, custom VPS setups, etc.)
    (We can usually still help — it just isn’t “free cPanel migration”.)

How our cPanel migrations work

For eligible services, we perform a full cPanel account backup and restore.

This allows us to migrate the entire cPanel account, not just individual websites or files.

A full backup & restore typically includes:

  • All websites under the cPanel account
  • Databases
  • Email accounts and mailboxes
  • Cron jobs
  • Add-on domains and subdomains
  • Most cPanel-level configuration

Because this is a native cPanel restore, your hosting environment is brought across as-is, significantly reducing the chance of missed settings or post-migration issues.

This is the closest thing to a like-for-like move you can get when changing hosts.

Eligibility for free migration

Free migration applies to eligible cPanel accounts.

Typical eligibility rules:

  • You’re migrating from another cPanel host
  • You’ve purchased an eligible GippsHost hosting plan
  • The migration request is made soon after sign-up
  • The account is a reasonable size and complexity for a standard cPanel restore


If a full backup & restore isn’t possible (for example, if the source host restricts backups), we’ll let you know before proceeding and confirm alternative options.

How the migration works

1) You submit a request

You provide:
• Old host cPanel URL and login details or a full cPanel backup file
• Domain name(s) being migrated
• Any special notes (multiple sites, email requirements, etc.)

2) We migrate the account

We restore the account onto GippsHost and perform initial checks.

3) Pre-switch testing

We confirm:
• Websites load correctly
• Databases connect properly
• Email accounts are present (if included)
• SSL is ready once DNS is updated

4) DNS cutover

We either:
• Provide exact DNS changes for you to apply, or
• Apply them for you if we manage your DNS

Downtime & timing

Most migrations can be completed with little to no downtime.

DNS changes can take anywhere from minutes up to 24 hours to fully propagate, depending on existing TTL values.

For high-traffic or time-sensitive websites, we’ll plan the cutover carefully.

What we need from you

To keep things moving smoothly:

  • Old host cPanel login or a full backup file
  • Access to DNS management or domain registrar (if applicable)
  • A list of active email accounts (if email is included)

Yes. Email cutovers depend on your current mail and DNS setup. We’ll guide you on the safest approach and flag anything that needs manual configuration.

Yes. If they’re under the same cPanel account, it’s usually straightforward.

All the time. WordPress works very well with cPanel backup restores.
