Free cPanel migration
Switching hosts shouldn't be a headache.
If your current provider uses cPanel, we'll move your website and email across to GippsHost for eligible services, with a migration plan that avoids downtime where possible.
- Local support
- Handled by real humans
- Planned DNS cutover
What we migrate
A proper cPanel account move
When the source host allows it, we use a full cPanel backup and restore so the account comes across as close to like-for-like as possible.
Websites
- Website files, including public_html
- Common add-on domains
- MySQL and MariaDB databases
- Site configuration where applicable
Email accounts
- Email accounts and passwords where possible
- Existing mailboxes and folders
- Safer cutover guidance for active mail
- Clear advice if a setup needs manual handling
DNS records
- End-to-end DNS help if we manage it
- Cloudflare changes when access is granted
- Exact records if another provider manages DNS
- Timing advice before the switch
What's not included
Free migration is not a rebuild
If something sits outside a clean cPanel transfer, we'll tell you upfront and quote it separately if you want help.
Unsupported platforms
Sites on platforms we cannot cleanly copy through cPanel backup and restore.
Existing issues
Broken sites, malware, hacks or problems already present on the old host.
Rebuilds and tuning
Redesigns, performance tuning, optimisation work or new development.
Non-cPanel systems
DirectAdmin, Plesk, custom VPS setups and other non-cPanel environments.
How it works
Full backup and restore, not a messy manual copy
For eligible services, we perform a full cPanel account backup and restore. That usually brings across websites, databases, email accounts, mailboxes, cron jobs, add-on domains, subdomains and most account-level configuration.
This is the closest thing to a like-for-like move when changing hosts, and it reduces the chance of missed settings after migration.
Usually included in a full restore
Eligibility
Who gets free migration?
Free migration applies to eligible cPanel accounts after sign-up to a suitable GippsHost hosting plan.
- You are moving from another cPanel host
- You have purchased an eligible GippsHost hosting plan
- The migration request is made soon after sign-up
- The account is a reasonable size and complexity for a standard restore
If a full backup and restore is not possible, for example if the source host blocks backups, we will confirm alternative options before doing anything.
Migration steps
How the migration works
You submit a request
Send your old cPanel login or backup file, the domains being migrated and any special email or site notes.
We migrate the account
We restore the account onto GippsHost and perform the initial checks before DNS changes.
Pre-switch testing
We confirm websites load, databases connect, email accounts are present and SSL is ready for cutover.
DNS cutover
We either provide exact DNS records or apply the changes for you if GippsHost manages your DNS.
Downtime and timing
Most migrations can be completed with little to no downtime. DNS changes can take minutes or up to 24 hours to fully propagate depending on existing TTL values.
For high-traffic or time-sensitive websites, we'll plan the cutover carefully instead of rushing the switch.
What we need from you
- Old host cPanel login or a full backup file
- Access to DNS management or domain registrar if applicable
- A list of active email accounts if email is included
- Any special notes for multiple sites or mail requirements
